I was selected to participate as Research Fellow to create font families printed in 3-D and experiment in working with these printed numbers and symbols in my daily classroom. Using the 3-D printed numbers and symbols, my students are able to compare/contrast and recognize the structural features of each numeral to reach mastery. I chose to do this project to show how visual pattern recognition and visual placement associated with these numbers can help children learn sequencing, and make predictions which leads to further understanding math skills and grammar acquisition.
I chose the printed 3-D numbers to create a hands on approach for helping my students decipher numbers based on their shape and physical attributes. |
Number sense is fluidity and flexibility with numbers. It is a deep understanding of individual numbers, their quantities, and how they relate to one another within the number system.
