Saturday greeted eight young engineer hopefuls, clutching their battery operated mechanical toys. Dean Petrella, Angela Fishman and I served to assist these young explorers as they tried to grasp the mechanics of electric motors in the guts of their toys. Hammers, screwdrivers, dremel saws and brute strength were needed to take apart amazingly robust toys with solid plastic frames. I share some of the pictures and the comments from a mom who stayed to watch…
… I want to thank you so much (and your wonderful team) for such a great session today.
The girls couldn’t stop talking about what a great time they had today, and that they can’t wait to come back for another class. They like and do well in school, but I haven’t heard them excited about learning in a long time.
You have the perfect formula for learning in a stimulating environment that is challenging, allows the kids to think for themselves, and provides support when needed. Your team teaching model is wonderful – being able to observe “from the sidelines” has been a joy.
I’m involved with Celine Mitchell with primary and elementary Montessori, and as she and I were talking about your classes, I have a sense that what you’re doing with both practical and theoretical teaching is very much like advanced Montessori.
Our kids have been blessed to participate in these sessions.
