Be Part of History: Have Your Name on the Virtual Crew of the 2014 Launch of NASA’s new Orion Spacecraft

Orion Spacecraft

The first mission for NASA’s new Orion spacecraft is scheduled to launch in September 2014 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.  Join Grow a Generation on Saturday, May 24, from 11 to 3 for an Engineering Saturday and students K-8 can work to have their names submitted for recognition in the Virtual Crew Manifest!

We will be completing an online radiation shielding activity as we investigate some of the challenges faced by NASA and companies like Astrobotic as they expand the boundaries of human life in the galaxy.  It is so easy to forget that we live with the first generation in the history of Earth to glimpse an image of our planet from space. It is second nature to rely on GPS and satellite technology that is only possible because brave men and women dared to escape the bounds of gravity.

REGISTER HERE FOR THE WORKSHOP!

Use the Promo Code SPACECADET for $20 off this Saturday’s workshop and become part of the Grow a Generation Crew!

Parents (and grandparents) are invited to stay and help!

Congratulations are extended to the Baden Academy Team of Glorian McDaniel, Bryant Ainsbury, Emily Fink and Ava Coups and the winners of the high school portion of the NASA Design Exploration Challenge, Team ARES. The team is from the Governor’s School for Science and Technology in Hampton, Virginia. They will now work with the NASA and Lockheed Martin spacecraft integration team to have the product of their experimental design approved for spaceflight, Engineers will install it onto Orion’s crew module and they will be guests at the launch of the Orion Exploration Flight Test-1 (EFT-1) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Will their experiment protect against the dense radiation field of the Van Allen Belt?
