Two Amazing App Challenges Win Best in State!!

Update:  CWNC SafeSpped was chosen Best in Nation!!!

“Congratulations! Our judges have chosen your app concept as a Best in State winner in the Verizon Innovative App Challenge! We received more than 1,200 app concept submissions in this highly competitive contest. You and your students should be proud of your hard work and innovation!”

To get one of these emails is fantastic.  To get two – wow!  I had the incredible honor of coaching two (YES TWO!) of the most extraordinary groups of young people who worked hard in the Fall preparing essays and entry videos for the Verizon Innovative App Challenge.

Fifth and sixth graders (with some incredible support from some third and fourth graders) took Kamryn’s research fellow website, the Kids Activity Center, to the next level proposing the K2k App, where Big Kids can become leaders, little kids achievers, and parents happy and were chosen the Best in State for the Middle School Division.

Ninth and tenth graders from Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic envisioned an app to provide gentle reminders to teens to slow down and drive safe.  The Safe Speed app is texts your mother in the event a teen is in a car exceeding the speed limit. It was chosen for the Best in State for the High School Division

And now we need your help.  Every phone number can text one vote and only one vote for the next tier of the competition – the Fan Favorite Division. Please check out the winning videos from the two app proposals, make a choice, then text 22333 with the code K2K1 or SAFESPEED1.  Remember, you only get one vote. I can’t choose – they are both incredible ideas of truly compassionate kids who want to make a difference.  Share with friends! Let’s help them win the grand prize of MIT developers who will help the team bring their app to the market.
