Amazing 3rd-6th Grade Research Fellows to be honored at June 7 Imagination Celebration

2015-16 Research Fellows (1)6th grade Gavin has published his 3rd book, The King Penguins of the Falkland Islands.

3rd grade Anthony and Christopher, creating YouTube videos about Molecular Gastronomy, have been retweeted by Molecular Gastronomy experts in Spain and Dubai. The MG (Molecular Gastronomy) Boys website introduces chemistry through new and innovative cooking techniques and has been viewed internationally (including in the United Arabs Emirates!)

5th grade Kamryn and her team won the Best in State Verizon App Challenge only to be disqualified for being too young.  Despite the setback you can check out her new app in the Google Play Store and her K2k Kids Activity Center website for brilliant ideas on helping big kids and little kids play together.

Who are these amazing kids?  They are just some of the 43 research fellows who worked on over 20 projects this year in the Baden Academy Media Lab.

The public is invited to the Tuesday, June 7, 6:30 pm in the Auditorium at Baden Academy Charter School on the grounds of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Baden, PA.  The evening program will celebrate the achievements of the Baden Academy Media Lab Research Fellows.

This exciting event will include book signings from four newly published books and some of last year’s authors. It will also include six TED Talks by the students about their projects and lessons they learned in the Research Fellows program.  Two such projects, Dragon Tags and RFID, highlight the innovation and application that can occur from the Media Lab program.  What began as a simple research project, has changed the dismissal program for the entire school and has the potential for impacting the transportation of students everywhere.  Fellows, mentored by FedEx, created a tracking system for ensuring that young students are on the correct bus each day using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID).  The celebration will also showcase projects from student website developers, app makers, vloggers, and club leaders, whose impact is way beyond the school.   It will truly be a night to celebrate!

The Baden Academy Charter School Media Lab is a Grow a Generation Research Fellows Lab under the direction of Dr. Ellen Cavanaugh.  Students in grades 3-6 are eligible to apply to be Research Fellows.  For more information visit www.badenacademy.org/medialab-blog or contact Dr. Ellen for a proposal to bring a fellows program to your school or group.
